How do you shrink heatshrink?

Star's right, I melted the insulation of my headphone amp wires (ethernet cable) together, while sealing them together with heatshrink, using a lighter. Of course, I couldn't see that, so it was really annoying to debug. Thank god for sort-circuit protected buffers

Hmm, the hair dryer around here is property of the Mrs., but as far as I can tell, it's just a regular 1600W hair dryer.
What's the difference between such, and one designed for styling?

I have a feeling that we have a win-win situation ahead here.
Buy the Mrs. a new (styling) hair dryer (happy Mrs.) and get better tool for the heat shrink.

Hot Air Gun

I use a hot air paint stripper gun.
Available at any hardware store for the price of $20.

I use match stick for once-in-a-bluemoon heatshrinking.

haha.. i use a jet lighter.. if i have fuel.. or else i use my propane plumbing torch... =P

I just use a lighter, even a cheap BIC. Ended up with some dark marks a couple times, but that's ok. They cleaned off for the most part, iirc.

I use a propane torch on a very low flame. Keep it about an inch away and keep it moving at all times.
