How do you know if one driver is better than another?

For example, how do I know that one I can buy is as good as one already put in a speaker by a major manufacturer like Klipsch, Polk, Energy, etc.?

Even more specific, where could I buy a driver that is as good as or better than Polk Tsi100 or Rti series? I know the enclosure and crossovers are just as important but I'm learning about the parts as I go along and understand it's not just one piece that makes a good speaker.

I know I started another thread about learning DIY but thought this one was different enough to start a new thread. Thanks for patience and help.

Synergy.............

A speaker system (drivers, enclosure, crossover) is the sum of its parts.

you could use the worst driver and still have it sound great if the enclosure and crossover are designed to suit that driver.

Just because a certain item is used in a certain system, does not mean it will be 'as good' in other systems.
