Happy speaker building in 2020 Jeff!
Out of interest, which Dayton Audio 3-1/2" version did you buy?
Good afternoon Galu. Thanks for the encouragement. The Version I bought of the Dayton Audio is the PS95-8 3 1/2 full range drivers on sale. I also bought the Dayton Audio air folded tweeter on sale. I will be crossing them over at 7,000 khz ( which p.e. recommend due to me using a 6 db crossover on the tweeter only ). If this works out then I will go to a bigger full range and a better tweeter. I just ordered everything Yesterday from p.e. A new year and am excited to see were this goes and how it turns out? This speaker will be for normal listen. Also I will be saving on wood for my boxes and time building the cabinets. Meaning more time listening. Well thanks again Galu. Happy new year. God bless. Jeff
A high Qts and Fs, so looking good for your application: https://www.parts-express.com/pedocs/specs/295-349--dayton-audio-ps95-8-spec-sheet.pdf
A happy new year to you Jeff, and I hope to hear more about this project come the spring! 🙂

That's great news about my driver. Yes I will be in touch later this spring. Again thanks Galu. Cheer's Jeff
As much as I love open baffle speakers, I can't see doing one with a 3.5" driver alone. Unless the baffle is huge, you'll have a terrible tonal balance with no bass. Low end losses on open baffle are massive, so you need big baffles and a lot of woofer displacement to combat those losses.
With good EQ you might be able to make a decent sounding OB desktop speaker with subwoofer support. Similar to the satellite with single sub computer speaker systems.
There is a long running OB project that uses a 3.5" cone as its tweeter, crossover is circa 700 hz. See here if you would like to know more.
Fast, fun, Inexpensive OB project
I know that's not going to stop you from building a set, (nor should it) but it might help you understand why getting a good tonal balance will be difficult. 😛

Good evening Pano. Thanks for the insightful words. I do have bigger drivers I can use if I needed to. I will do my research before I go head with this O.B. project. Again thanks for your help. Cheers. Jeff
Ah! Pano opens the curtains and allows the harsh light of reality to flood in! 🙂
But why not indulge in some inexpensive diy fun - an exploration into what is and what is not possible?
P.S. Pano, I really like your Fast, fun, Inexpensive OB project and am sorely tempted to dip my toes into the murky waters of open baffle loudpeaker design!

Open baffle is a lot of fun and can sound very nice indeed. Certainly easy to build.
You just have to understand its limitations and peculiarities. Go for it!

Wow nice o.b. speaker Pano. Is that the sea's 4 inch full range drivers back side I see? Just wondering what full range driver you used with your low end woofer. Also nice crossover. Cheers Jeff
