How do they get more Lums. out of FXL bulb?

Was wondering, seeing as I have to replace the transformer in my projector anyway, how does the 'Dukane Starfire Series' get 6000 Lumens out of an FXL bulb?
Do they just up the voltage? If so does anyone know what the rating on the tranformer is?
I know it would lower the life of the bulb, but it would be a easy way for me to increase the output.
