I'm working on a klipsch pseudo-clone (but lower spl sensitivity) using a silver flute 4ohm 8" paired with the mcm round horn with a jbl compression driver (probably 2407a). I burning away a bit of spl from the tweeter.
I could use the 6.5" shielded 8 ohm silver flute in a pair to get up to 96db, or use 1 for baffle step.

I tried similar thing with an 8 inch driver, MCM waveguide, works very well, deep bass and the midrange is cleaner than a large PA driver. However it did get compressed sounding very quickly with some volume. The cruel world of compromises. Maybe I should place a copy of Valis on topto give it a bit of zing 😉
yea, an 8" runs into trouble quick when turning it up or some bass comes along.
There is a small active crossover that I may hop up a bit, maybe 100hz@24db should help a struggling 8".
