Re: got a design that needs choking?
it's for a step-down voltage regulator (they call it switchers in national.com) and a choke (or inductor is required).

Jarthel,
Looking at the inductors at the Epcos website, I'd say you are on the right track. Especially if these are surface mount. The really cool thing about surface mount devices is that no holes need be drilled. Same thing for the SimpleSwitcher chip, and the diode, and the two caps.
In selecting the right inductor, look at the DC Amps rating to see if it can handle the required current, as I remember was 2.55A. Other than that, you are well on your way to doing your first switching regulator successfully.

Hello Steve, Jarthel,
Epcos has nice cores with gap, but You had to calculate and wind it yourself.
The smd´s they offer are only filter chokes!
Jarthel,
better You try to get the parts recommended in the datasheet.

I should'a looked closer at the website.

Steve:
"..I think Jartherl was looking at Epcos's products because they are available locally (AU)."
Ah, yes, this one:

Look to "distributors"- Asia !

yes pulse eng is available locally
BUT farnell doesn't stock the suggested value. I need a 33uH while Farnell only stock 22 and 47. and I would like to buy all my parts from 1 place to save on postage.
