Hello,
After 8+ years of trouble free problems, one of my Yamaha HS80M monitors seems to have gone out. The issues are:
- no sound (this has been double checked to ensure it's not the cables or interface).
- when I turn the monitor off and on, it makes a loud pop and the woofer pops. This is a short video, in which I turn the damaged speaker off/on, and then do the same with the speaker that functions well:

Might anyone have ideas on what causes this or how to fix it?
Thank you.

These are biamplified active speakers, and with no sound from either driver,
the shared power supply may be gone.
the shared power supply may be gone.
There is a free service manual with enough info on how to start doing repairs. An LM3886TF-2 chip amp. Check the power supply, voltage regulators...
I bet on regulators, LM7815 and LM7915, on the Yams the culprit is usually the LM7915. Is a common known issue with the HS80's. While you're at it change the heat sinks with something bigger, don't forget the thermal compound, and also change the protection diodes, they tend to go down with the regulators.
