Does anyone have a clue as to the specs or what his transistor cross references to? Not an audio transistor but from an IBM 3278 terminal. It's shorted and no schematics are available. Thanks.
My database doesn't have any info on that.
One thing to investigate..... does the collector have positive or negative on it - power supply check.
If poz, it's an NPN.
The two pins are sometimes marked, or standard config TO3.
Then maybe try a regular power transistor in place. - OR, it might be a regulator.
Good luck with that.

Yeah my thoughts were pretty similar. Try and see what voltages are involved and go from there. Have to do a thorough inspection of the power supply first. Large can caps and even a ferro resonant transformer inside this thing. Not my pictures but here is what a good example looks like. https://vintagecomputer.ca/ibm-3277-and-3278-terminals/
