Thanks for the response macboy. I am rebuilding the amp in a more logical manner and what you have said may help if I run into problems again.
Interesting you mention the DC offset - mine is 17mv but I know of people who have up to 35mv and don't report any heat problems as a result. I suppose if there is another fault in the amp dc offset would only exacerbate it.

Is it warm or hot? When I run my GC on -40/+40 Volt they run pretty hot. No oscilation just quesient power dissipation and high thermal resistance. Since you use -37/+37 Volt (and maybe a tinny bit higher when idle?) this could 'help' to get the temperature up.
