Hi guys,
I am looking for an old article by Jeff Macaulay and a pair of reader letters to that article:
'Hot Audio power': Electronics World & Wireless World, 1995 Oct, pp 856-859; reader letter: 1995 December, p 1070, and letter by D. C. Haigh 'Improved Hot Audio Power', 1996 January, p 36.
Much obliged,
Jan

Links 2 and 3 are also notable for containing excerpts form one of the Morgan Jones book.
Link 2 is Jones' analysis of the Williamson circuit, Mullard 5-20 and the Quad II
Link 3 is the Jones, not uncontroversial, Bevois Valley EL84 amplifier.
Cheers, Steve

What's controversial about the Bevois Valley amp?
I'm guessing it's the concertina build-out resistor.

Another Brit, Keith Snook maybe?, took issue with Jones for 1) trashing old Leaks and 2) IIRC, the math behind his feedback calculations and the caps on the grids of the output tubes used to control HF response.
It's been a while since I read it but it might come up on a search.

Yes, those were the heydays of audio electronics!
If you were lucky to grow up around that time and had access to them, you learned details and circuit understanding you never forget and can be used almost daily!
