I found this on the Spectrum Audio site;
I have redrawn it roughly rather than link to their pic, here's the link to their page;
http://spectrumaudio.de/bausatz/hornicon.html
I wondered if anyone in the UK had made one and would be very interested to hear anyones comments.
They would suit me fine as I'm soon (ish) to have a loft audio room with not much height.
Regards - Jem
There is a brief mention of it in this thread: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/sear...64380733&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

You should check out this link:

The design is called a BIB (Bigger is better).
Dear Gavin,
Many thanks for your reply.
Do you think it may be a 1/2 height BIB?
I had looked at the site you linked to and realised that I couldn't make one because of the height restriction I will have in my loft.
Kind regards - Jem

It's just a folded conical horn with the driver tapped (very slightly) into the path a short distance from the trunkated throat. The BIB is set to 1/2 wavelength of the desired tuning frequency for maximum efficiency; this is likely set to 1/4 wave. With it rammed up against a back wall, or better, in corners, it might keep harmonic ripple acceptable, but I'd be wary, & as a minimum, get a thick layer of damping on the base to help with that and prevent too much midrange information passing through the horn.
Dear Scott,
Thanks for your informative reply, I think I will stick to my Needles and buy some better drivers than the FRS8's I've got in them at the moment.
Kind regards - Jem

I built a short 48" horn like this last month for the pioneer B20. It doesnt seem to give up much, if any bass compared to a longer BIB but I did need to lightly stuff the entire front half of the box to filter out the mids coming from the mouth.

Dear BR,
I think I will steer clear of this design, looking at the table I found here: http://www.zillaspeak.com/bib.asp from G's post. I see it says the line length for the Pioneer B20 is 156" and the folded height should be 78".
And yet you've made one with a 48" (external?) height with the driver (at the top as in the HornIcon diagram?) or is it in the centre as per the BIB design?
Confused, well yes 🙂 I am.

Yes, I made a 48" BIB like horn for the B20. The driver is 20" down from the closed end and the Sm is around 180"sq. Just an experiment that turned out OK.
I got the idea after I built a 48" BIB for the Dayton RS100. They sound great with really good bass for such a tiny driver.
