Horn Shaped Duct

the helmholtz resonator works on the priciple that the port contains a mass of air when coupled to a chamber it resonates at a particular frequency

you could using WinISD or the like model your basic port dimensions then using the volume found work out an exponential port that contains the same volume of air

however doing that you won't be able to model the gain that comes from the flare

using MJK's sheets might actually be better cos hornresponse only calculates the response of the horn not the driver as well

Hi @+Maiky!

Very interesting site!

Basically I would like model and calculate some BLH-BR design, like the Isophon HornKehle or the Impulse H-6. This is why I am looking for a the modificated Helmholtz equation.

I am afraid, if this Haliaetus theory true, than the whole BLH "industry" are mistaken......

Re-Hi!

Too bad! The PDF are too big to be attached here.

Anyway, they do not claim anything against hornloaded subs.
An article from Nokia research ( from the famous Juha Backman I think) alredy show that in so called hornloaded subs the front horn if it is folded at least plays the role of a kind of BR load...

No, our guys deal with very low frequency, were no horn worth the test, and they make a dipole directivity pattern for their sub.

They smartly use the BR behaviour around the Fb to increase the low extension. The points of using a nozzle are
- to drastically reduce the air flow noise cause by port under high air speed conditions
- to convert the kinetic energy of the air flow into the potential energy of the pressure sound wave (the inverse of the high speed water cleaner Karcher) because pressure is what we hear….

In addition, the whole professionals, or so called, can all do the same mistake:
MTM for a center channel in Home-theatre is exactly the worst case for horizontal directivity!!!!

Hi!

Yep, I heard them! Very impressive and actually no air flow noise at very high level and low extention. Impact, speed and effortless would be ihmo the good description.
They use widely known drivers from Scanspeak from the mid high but maybe in the best way I've head so far.
Anyway the best speaker for me is the Neo from Mosquito that I heard in Dynamicaudio 5555 in Tokyo (compared with Focal Grande Utopia Be, BW 800D, Sonus Faber Stradivari, Krell LAt...).
