Horn Cut Off Frequency Question ?

When exporting horn data, I see 3 options for "Width Flare": Con, Exp, and Uni.

I am assuming "Con" is conical, "Exp" is exponential, and "Uni" is uniform.

Can you explain "Width Flare" and its 3 options ?

I selected exponential in the main input parameter screen.

Hi HP8903B,

The horn data export Width Flare settings are not related to the flare profiles specified on the main input parameters screen.

The "Con" Width Flare setting causes a rectangular horn to expand in a conical or straight-side tapered fashion in the horizontal plane. This setting is typically used for a constant directivity type horn.

The "Exp" Width Flare setting causes a rectangular horn to expand in an exponential fashion in the horizontal plane.

The "Uni" Width Flare setting causes a rectangular horn to expand uniformly in both the horizontal and vertical planes. In other words, the aspect ratio of the cross-sectional area changes uniformly along the length of the horn.

You might like to try exporting sample horn profiles as csv files using the three different Width Flare options, and plotting the Length and Width/2 values in Excel to see the differences in horizontal flare rate.

Kind regards,

David

My machinist does not have a way to graph all the points in the Horn data.
I can graph them in Excel but the X and Y axis are not to scale with each other.

How can I graph all the points on an XY plot with equal scale ?

This way, I can just give him the picture so he can load it into his software to do cutting.

I want to bend the horn 90 degrees up at about 122 cm from the mouth.
The tail will be vertical.

So the horn will have 3 sections:
1. Tail
2. Bend
3. Mouth

What would be the best way to draw out the 2 sides, top, and bottom pieces of the "Bend" section ?
