I've been out of the live music business for some years but recently attempted a comeback. Purchased a used EV 61PM powered mixer, with a couple speaker cabinets and a monitor. The mixer has a 'monitor out' quarter inch jack. I get no sound from the monitor when plugged into this jack. The guy at the local music store says the monitor needs a 'separate' amplifier? Is there any way around this? I have a vintage Yamaha B 100-2 Bass Amplifier but there is no input on the back that says 'exterior amp' etc. but there is a female XLR input that says 'sig out'. Would this work? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry no it won't work. You need to purchase, as we used to call them, a slave amplifier to run your monitors or purchase powered monitors.
And hopefully not to confuse you, but another alternative is to use the litle collection of patch jacks on the mixer to feed the monitor out signal to the power amps in the mixer and use those for monitors and then use a separate power amp for the mains speakers. A line level main out jack is there for that.
