Hook up wire sources

Digikey offers several multi-color spool boxes from remington wire. I've gotten I think the #26 and #22 spool sets. I think 12 or 16 colors. For solid, if I see a telco box when walking the dog, I take a quick look to see if there is any wire laying around. I always like the telco solid wire and its free.

Apex jr on eBay is the best source of silver plated copper wire with a Teflon jacket I have found. He has it in both solid and stranded in almost every gauge and color. It’s not expensive either. It’s all mil spec too. I’ve been buying from him for thirty years and never disappointed. He also has ApexJr.com

This has been a joy to use, honestly. I love that the insulation is silicone and doesn’t melt with soldering. It’s also very flexible. Easy for the hobbyist. I’ve used similar products from Amazon for larger gauges.

I do typically use CAT5 solid twisted pairs for signal input wires, like @NareshBrd suggests.

Silicone wire kept showing up in Amazon searches but good to know its easy to work with.

Tinned sounds different but no one knows why.

The worst IMO is silver coated milspec stuff. Too much out there, can't stand it.

Whether it is tinned or not makes no difference in the sound. The silver plated PTFE wire is a good find if affordable, but outside of harsh environments standard tin plated will work with no issues - just use a reputable brand such as Remington.
