Hi, I am thinking about changing the audio system for my car. One of the crazy ideas is to use the home speaker units and put them into the car. I am considering the Seas Excel series as I am pretty sure they will outperform any standard car units. I have room to put in a small wooden box that holds the tweeter and then the woofer into the car doors as usual.
Is the idea workable? Any precautions that I should be aware of? Anything to be aware of the amplifiers for the driving capability?
Any thought will be very much appreciated.

ur biggest concern is the power input needed for amp/speakers/subs that arnt designed for car battery...
it wouldnt be hard for you to use car amp and hometheatre speakers/subs/tweeters but again power input is a poss problem

I don't think they are suited for car use since car have hard environment at least here in Montreal (-45 with the wind today). Also, unless you have a BMW 745 or other similar car 🙂 , the noise in a car is very high so you won't hear all the details that these speakers are capable of.
Why not use pa speakers
Pa speakers are just as rugged as decent car componets and subs,or maybe more rugged.
Eminence do 4 0hm versions of some of their bass driver, but this is only available in the uk. www.eminence-speaker.com
I can't stand most cheap car componets, even the upgrades to the factory crap.Unless you spend at least £300 on a pair of front speakers, the quality sucks, but if your you want a loud and bassy system you can get front speakers for about £100,any less than that they are liable to blow, because they are made poorly.
VIBE do some good quality car speakers,Rockford Fostage also a very good all round manufactor for component series, amps, subs.
Now moving back to hifi speakers. The budget hifi loudspeakers i now avoid like the plague, because i've blown up so many hifi[bookshelf] loudspeakers. The thing i hate about hifi speakers is,the design and manufactor puts more effort into a good looking and solid cabinet, but uses standard loudspeaker drivers.I think any hifi equipment under a grand is going to be good, but not that good. The only hifi loudspeaker i can't resist,is the B&W Natius[4 way loudspeaker, and each driver uses a separate cabinet, with a spiral 'snail shell' tapered tube on each cabinet rear.]
Some good hifi drivers are peerless,Audax,Seas
But most of the drivers i blew up where made by Vifa.
I think pa subwoofers and pa midranges matched with hifi dome tweeters and a suitable crossover would make a good system for the car.
The rubbish part in a budget hifi speaker is usually the bass driver, unable to handle long excersions or high volumes, the tweeter and crossover is usually pretty good.
