Home theater stereo speakers recommendation

You seem to be negating every advantage offered by a home theatre system. If you're using Netflix et al you'll be mixing six or eight channels down to two. Using a 2.1 amplifier with no sub makes no sense to me. There are plenty here who will do the math but sitting 5m away from a pair of 15" is unlikely provide the LFE of a 12" sub 0.5m away (behind the sofa). The sub will require 10w to reach 100db the full range speakers will require several times that.

I've looked at the BYT many times, and it may a great choice since you don't need the spl. Every choice comes down to personal preference, once you've gotten the performance metrics needed.

Check out Earlks post #4. It has the upper waveguide built into a box enclosure, and you could do it in a single cabinet also, since the midrange driver has a closed back. Even at lower volume, I love the ease of presentation of a 15 inch driver. Less amp power needed to drive with the higher sensitivity. You may be surprised how much volume you can push, without bothering your neighbors, being in the basement. I have a full pa rehearsal/ recording setup in my basement, and in 20 years of full band jamming, I've not gotten a single complaint over volume. Glenn.

It is a good idea to pick some of the donhighend speaker plans, as you can supply all components in the EU. I even buy from your country by mail order on occasions. No problem with transport, tax and payment. Also, the constructions are highly refined, judged by many competent people. They are unbeatable in using valueable, inexpensive components for a great result you hardly can match in the commercial world.

The Mona Kea is an excellent full range speaker made for high end stereo needs. You will have a hard time finding any commercial speaker, even 10 or many more times as expensive, to match it. No need for a subwoofer, for sure. Just a very good amp to drive it.

On the other hand, for home cinema, 5 times the BYT will give a more impressive reproduction, if paired with an active subwoofer.
Not to mention, the BYT is a fantastic stereo speaker too.

It may be the best advice, not to spent any money on some used stereo amp for this cause. You will not get what you expect.
The MK will need an excelent amp, or it is a waste of money.
The BYT should give you a really impressive HT experience in 5.1 but absolutely needs a multi channel amp.

If you are undecided, there is a good compromise. Build the BYT (don't get creative, stick to the plan!) and get some cheap stereo amp.
I would not buy something used, but the AIYIMA A07 TPA3255 from Aliexpress. At your doorstep after a week, for less than 50€. Use some power supply you sure have at home. Thsi amp is multiple times as good as it's price makes you expect. The Class D paradoxon...

This way, with the BYT and the A07 you can educate your ears and experience first hand what really good sound reproduction is. You probably never did before.

Building 5 or 7 speaker at once greatly reduces the price for the cabinet material, as cutting may be just as expensive as wood if you go for fibre board.
That way you can "industrialize" the building process.

For a subwoofer ask later, for a start you don't need it.
