well i just bought a ohp from a college surplus store for 10$ thought it was a good deal if not just for the optics it is a buhl model 80 a older ohp for sure. i cant decide how i want to light my project the bulbs for this ohp are $5.99 plus goldy to ship so about 15$ shipped with a life of 150 hours its a 600 watt bulb ( dys ) i dont know how many lumens that should produce so that s half my problem should i replace those bulbs or should i go buy a metal halide setup and if i do that should i do a 250 watt setup or a 400 watt setup but on the other hand i have one of those cheap shop lights on a stand thats a holagon 500 watt light should i just jack and use it cuz the bulbs are readily available close but i dont know that lumens that shoud produce iether i will only be viewing at night by the way so it dont have to be goldy bright and i do have a low budget for this project also i under stand that if i go MH that ill iether have to mod my OHP or build a box i havent got a good lcd yet but im working on it at first i just wanted a panel on a ohp ... and i still do but finding a decent panel for under $50 is kinda hard i live in a apartment so i really dont have anyplace to build my box ... i hate apartments ...... any help would be great THX
hmmm... go metal halide.
the 600 halogens are yellow, and a 400 halide makes about double the lumens. The 600 watts from the halogen are mostly wasted as heat, whereas the metal halide is more efficient in turning this energy into light.
the shop light you are talking about probably has too long of an arc (the bit that burns/gets hot and makes light) too produce a focused image.
I have the same OHP btw, hopefully the fresnels arent as warped by the heat of said 600 watt bulb as mine are!

lol i dunno havent really looked at the fresnels yet all i got so far is the OHP with no bulbs ... but im working on getting a vg150 lcd monitor. so u suggest a 400 MH for light .... u think i should use my fresnel .... if its not warped... id like to use at least some of its parts.... im trying to do this as cheap as posable
