Hi guys!
This will be my first thread here and of course it's about me having problems with my tech
I've got a issue with my amp (HLLY Tamp-10). I purchased it about 2½ years ago but haven't used it for the last year or so. The last time i used it it worked just fine though. I just unpacked it from the box to enjoy the amazing sound quality again, only to realize that it wasn't working as good anymore.
It sounds just fine on low volume, but as soon as I turn the volume up a little past half it starts "hacking" up the music. It's only playing small fragments of the track. The amp doesn't turn off completely (light's still on). The silence is about 1 sec and then sound for ½ sec just to go silent again. If I turn the volume back down it sounds alright again. I get the feeling that it is some kind of protective feature (overload or overheat protection or something) that is activated. The amp is a little warm (maybe 40 degrees Celsius) but can that really be to much?
Has anyone gotten any idea what the issue might be and how I can solve it. I have taken it apart once before so if it's a mod that's going to sort it out then that shouldn't be a problem!
Thanks a lot in advance for the help!
/Johan

Sounds like the amp is going into protection mode.
I dont know what chip is in there but the IRS2029 requires all voltages to be correct before it will power up.
After that if it detects an overload on either MOSFET it will cut out for a short period.
I would check the output MOSFETs for a short between D-S to start with.
