@LineSource; I have a question for you re your Apogees, would you mind PM ing me as I can‘t message you? TIASince you live in the USA... spend some time going through "Craigs List" in your area. In most cases, you can drive to the owner and listen/discuss before you purchase.
Since you enjoy the sound of Tube Amplifiers, look for JBL M2 speakers.(M2 = horn type)
Audiophiles often reach out to other audiophiles in their close circle.Depends on the circle you ask.
OK so I used the Vienna Acoustics as a benchmark speaker. I am now building my own consisting of SB34NRXL75-08, AC130F1, and 27TAC/BG. Stay tuned.

OK I was being nice. Truth is I was able to cobble together a speaker very quickly that out performed them. So they "served" their purpose but i am past that. I found them to be very polite is how I would describe them.vienna acoustic are not well regarded

a good reference in commercial realm sfor midrange quality, is Harbeth. I dont own their speakers anymore but harbeth mids are great imo

ATC, Harbeth, Spendor, PMC, Tannoy in UK speakers are well regarded
Revel, Wilson audio as built in USA

Danny Ritchie although knowledgeable from what I’ve read is still biased
he is selling gear that ‘ assumes‘ speakers aren’t designed well so he can sell products that make them better.
some of his kits may do exactly that. Who knows.
i don’t know about speaker design but I do know about bias.
and he isn’t the best person to review a speaker because of that bias

But to some extent we all are.

Yes.
But to some extent we all are.
dave
well there is bias and then there is bias.
i can be biased by owning a pair of proacs for example and be biased in that I think the brand is great because I own them.
then I can sell Nike shoes and make videos about how other brands are cheaply made and not as good as Nike.
see the differences?
both biases , but quite different.
