The PCB in work is for this amp. It works increadibly well constructed on cheap vero board, it should work with a properly designed and built PCB...the current challenge is to not make any mistakes!! ...may take months to optimize.

It isn't really as complicated as it appears, lots of cascode😀. Actually it is just multiple amplifier's in cascade with direct coupling, essentially. I should be able to use several SOT-563 package devices for most of the small signal BJT's, they will be well below 100mW, Pd is not very large for SOT-563. This will save lots of space. Many resistors qualify the specs for SMD size 201, if I can see them. Most are but a few mW.

Maybe someone would like to Spice it 😀 and tell us the results.

Sonus Faber Concertino Domus speakers, 4 ohms, rated at 100-150W
Technics GA-SX690 integrated amplifier...

I am looking to build a pre-amp as well as a power amplifier...

I would like it to drive the speakers, so 100W is a minimum...

I would like it to be class A.

I will take a look at the Pass Labs forum...

You have not mentioned the efficiency of the speakers. The is probably the most important spec to determine the size of amp required.

Do you understand the power dissipation of a 100-150 watt class A amp? It will require enormous heat sinks and power supply i.e. expensive.

Ask your dad about the differences between class A and class AB amps.

I would like to stress what Greg says. This is a 32 watt/ch and it runs hot to touch.

The Sonus Faber Concertino Domus are about 88dB/W/m from the Sonus Faber sheets. And they recommend 30-150W amplifier. You could probably get away with anything in that poewr range depending on the size of the room it's going to be used in. But for a class A in the higher power range, you'll be spending at least as much as for the speakers even to create the amplifier - let alone get it working OK. But you won't need to use your heating in winter...🙂

I need a schematic, PCB layout, and how-to (I managed to find the Krell stuff myself).

When searching for Blowtorch preamp and John Curl amp in google, I get like nothing, with some links to this forum...

When I search for Aleph 1.7, I found some cool stuff, like this:

Nice Class-A kit

Hi!

I suggest that you start with a kit. A class-a single end power amplifier with transistors is really simple to build and have a really good signal management who grant a nice sound to listen to.
If you don’t want a kit you can easily make one your self by use an OP. Easy good sound.
I now that A&O Audio in Sweden soon are going to sell nice kit’s in different prices over the Internet. www.Aoaudio.se.
One disadvantage is that Class-a needs good transformers and cooling profiles who can be expensive… But the sound… listen to the details in the silence…

I have decided to turn things around a bit, and I will be building a pre-amp first. I want to see what can be done with the Aleph P1.7...

I will also take a look at some kits...
