'Blast from the Past'! I've seen similar ages ago, but don't recall any brands ATM.

Anyway, looks good at a glance, then add a Dr. Geddes style bass array of DIY THs/whatever till there's enough cabs to get the desired 'slam'/vibration factor and of course upgrade the electrical service to handle the extra several kW required to drive it all ;).

Indeed, perhaps before proceeding, dave and partner need to ascertain just exactly how loud their definition of "concert levels" is - even the cheapest smart phone apps should get you in the right ball-park.

120+ db is pretty freakin loud - sustained listening at even 20dB below that level can almost certainly cause at least short term hearing damage.

+1 Eh?😱

That's peak, though Rock, etc., concert levels are compressed, so figure ~105 dB average back where the FOH mixer is if it hasn't changed much in recent decades. Live symphonies OTOH have > +30 dB peaks, though 'only' ~95 dB average front row center, still plenty loud.

Defining concert levels. Depends what size concert and what defines a concert size either open air or closed in enclosure. Depends if your stood next to the PA speakers or whether they use an array. Perhaps people don't get the full db stood at the rear of the concert!

Correct and why I specified the locations, though if the stage is above ear height the SPL can be lower up front than further back. The loudest perceived SPL is up in the 'cheap seats' where you're in line with the bulk of the mids, HF horns, though guessing line arrays would be more evenly balanced high to low [no experience].

I'm always sensible with the volume esp when I'm sober! When the devils waters in me, the concert volume is applied just ever so slightly more. The overall effect of more volume gets the mrs dancing in the room infront of the speakers...very annoying lol

Not a single clue about what woofers to pair but getting to 100-105dB could maybe be done with Faital PRO 3FE22 or 4FE32.

For lower frequencies, some things have a lot of air to move. 🙂

Would suggest if "dancing speakers" is a requirement, you consider more of a multi-way design, with tweeters to radiate wider angles.

I think I recall seeing the build on this forum. Nice looking speakers by the way, be interested to listen to them. I have at present Ruark Excaliburs. They are the best sounding speakers that I have ever owned although I expect there are a ton of others that would smash them for sound.

dave - if the Ruarks sound good to you, they are - until they don't/aren't

I hope you realize this is Lewis Carroll country through which you're embarking on a journey - and depending on the characters you meet along the way, it could be the Tim Burton version
