As your suggesting unity gain stable op-amps it does not bypass the
issue with tone controls. For a +20dB gain line stage it only has to be
stable for +20dB gain, adding tone controls you have to knobble the
compensation to be suitable for your minimum treble level which you
hardly ever use, its why they got a bad press in the first place.
