Hi,
does any one know if it´s possible to build (or buy) a "losless" dc-blocking filter for an antenna kabel (for a tuner).
I bought a standard item but it seems to dampen the signal as I can´t receive as many radio channels as before.

Lossless no
If you are trying to block DC you could try a high quality 2 way splitter, most only pass DC through one outlet, so use one of the non power pass outputs, might work?
If you are triiiying to isolatethe active and ground to remove a ground loop this won't work
hope this helps

Hello james,
yes I removed a ground loop (succesfully). I know that there are two types of filters: a. with a transformer and b. with two capacitors. Wich of the two will attenuate more?

<a href="http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/antenna_isolator.html">Isolation between antenna network and TV/radio equipment</a> shows how to make both transformer and cap isolators, but no mention of loss.
Mondial designs makes the <a href="http://www.klipsch.com/mondial/index2.asp?path=/products/mondial/index.asp?frame=y&id=&line=&1">Magic Box</a> and <a href="http://www.klipsch.com/mondial/index2.asp?path=/products/mondial/index.asp?frame=y&id=&line=&1">Magic Splitter</a> still no mention of loss.
You may need an antenna amplifier or a higher gain antenna to overcome the loss of the DC filter

James

Hello William and James,
this problem caught me too, in the past.
Solved: my "ground-breaker" are two coupling capacitors of 1 nF soldered into the antenna plug, one for the shield and one for the hot wire. The mean thing is: yanevano which lead to dc-interrupt: shiled or hot wire. So i have both decoupled 😎.
I used silver mica caps, no problem with sonic deterioation, no problems with loss. I have very tricky UHF receiving condition here (i want to get Austria 1 classic radio and the roof antenna is not adjusted for it; i get it as well with as without the coupling caps).

Thank you Bernhard,
for now I think I´ve solved the problem by raising the ground with a 5 Ohm resistor (Naim power supply) When this doesn´t work I´ll try your method although it´s not so easy to get the silver mica caps.
