high output sub bass

Hello

I am installing a 15” car audio subwoofer for home use and have ordered a 500Wrms bkelec amplifier (http://www.bkelec.com/new/Modules/bsbp500.htm). I know that using a car sub in a house isn’t the best thing to do but this is all I have and I don’t want to spend any more money. The sub is currently sitting in a sealed 1.55 cubic ft enclosure. Manufacturer recommends a sealed 2.27 cubic ft (This size is for Car use). I want the sub to only produce frequencies below 60/70Hz, as I don’t think it would sound good producing anything higher (is this correct?). My current hifi setup consists of a Sony amplifier, Sony CD player and floor standing speakers and I am hoping that the sub will fill the current gap left at the bottom of the audio spectrum.
My question - Is there anyway of maintaining the high output sub bass when moving the subwoofer from the car to the house?

The subwoofer is a Hollywood excursion which was primarily designed to be loud. The parameters are as follows-

Fs 20.0 Hz
Qts 0.400
Vas .886 Ft^3
Xmax 0.53”
Ref 90.00 dB
Pe 500 Watts RMS / 1,500 Watts Peak
Z Dual 2 Ohm Voice Coils

Voice coils to be wired in series to produce 4 ohm load for amplifier.

Any info will be much appreciated. Thank you.

You've hit the nail on the head: car subs are designed to be loud, catering to the musical tastes (or lack thereof, depending upon your point of view) of teenagers. They also tend to be of somewhat lower quality than home subs, and can do so as they operate in the small volume of an automoblie and can rely on compression effect to achieve high levels at low frequencies. Put your driver in the recommended size box to get the most out of it. Your amp looks fine and will provide the necessary roll off of high frequencies and will stand you in good stead when your finances allow you to step up to a better driver
