I have a great system featuring Cardas golden, Vanden hul, Fostex based myself built speakers

HELP please?

up to $1 k used and prefer high end manufacture

thanks in advance

cheers!..

Used high end players IMLE have proven pretty risky, I'd recommend something new.
Spare parts for anything using the older Philips mechanisms are unobtainium..

Audiogon is probably the place to look for a good used unit of recent provenance.

The OPPO BDP-95 is a universal player well regarded for its sonics, and is available new for about what you want to pay. It's been widely and rather favorably reviewed. This has the ESS Sabre 32 DAC which is pretty much SOTA as dac chips go.

Others to consider would be an NAD M5 (which might be within reach used) and the NAD C565BEE. The M5 has been well reviewed as well.

I have not heard the latest versions of any of these players.

I hesitate to recommend any used player unless you know the seller personally and know the history of the player in question.

:cop: With regard to your choice of font please use one of the standard fonts like Ariel, New Times Roman, Calibri in a reasonable point size. Your post is visually unpleasant to contemplate.

Good font choice! 😀

Best to read the reviews as I have not heard this particular player, but its predecessor really was better than most things I have heard including some quite high end older used two channel gear. Oppo put a lot of thought into the stereo performance of this model. Also it is apparently a really good SACD player.

I think with your budget you would be hard pressed to do a whole lot better, and these are very reliable machines as well.

Of corse if you can get the 840C even better , but for the price i cant see another player in the market that beats the 740C. One guy at Marchand ( the famous electronic crossovers brand) told me that they advised some of their customers who like you wanted to update their cd players to go for the Cambridge audio players (740 or 840C this was 2 years ago).I know arcam cd players sound , i have a alpha 9 too , the CA player doesnt have that warm sound it´s more neutral but much more detailed IMO , there´s another advantage : you can use it as a dac for other Sources like a PC. Another thing i like in this player is the upsample , i´ve heard other players that upsample but not this good. You will find better players but be prepared to spend more money

Another Top player is the Audiolab 8200 or 820CDQ(with digital preamp)

i use minidsp now , so i wont buy a new player untill my 740c gives up the ghost , i feed the minidsp digitaly so it acts as a dac making the player basicly a transport.

if you have the money for the audiolab go for it , if you want to speand less go for the cambridge.
