Interesting. I was looking at ~8" full range drivers and it seemed (apparently incorrectly) that I needed to be around a 20' TL, which is a pretty complicated box for me to build.

I was able to make an 18 inch length work quite well. But, then again, to me, an eight inch driver is more of a wide-band mid-range, and I would not ask it to do anything more than it is comfortable doing. If any given design is asking an eight inch driver to simultaneously produce bass, as well as much of the rest of the music range, be prepared to usher in modulation distortion. It seems to me, this is a loosing compromise. But, then again, to each their own.

One of the drivers that I initially considered is the Fostex FE206e. Looking at the plans for that cabinet scared me off. I assumed I would need a complex cabinet for most any full range driver. While not TL designs, I also looked at some of Troels Gravesens designs. Most are more complicated than I am willing to take on as a first project.

In any case, I purchased a set of compression drivers that will mount to horns, so I am going to go with a 2-way system this go around. If this design doesn't do what I want, I will likely come back to a TL design and spend more time researching it. It kind of needs to be a conventional looking design, as I need to make sure the little lady stays happy too. 😀

Not true at all.

The FE206 factory box is not that good (FE208e∑ box is better), but they are least all have straight cuts, so the only downside ar ethe many panels. Most of the FExxx series drivers need horns which can be quite complex. This is not the case for many other drivers.
