Those are the bridging wires. You need to measure to the non-bridging wires.

That's OK. The RCA shield grounds tend to break on the amps with the vertical RCA jacks.

The Zener would be connected across pins 4 and 8. There should be a number on it. There are sometimes two Zeners in series instead of a single Zener.
