HPS (High Pressure Sodium) is a form of HID (High Intensity Discharge) lighting. A H.I.D. light uses a pressurized glass tube filled with gas, with an electrode on each end rather than a filament to create light. An arc of electricity is discharged across the two electrodes, which excites the gas to create light. HPS, MH (Metal Halide), UHP (Ultra High Pressure) and a couple others are all forms of HID lighting.
To answer your question… I can’t. Lets pretend you asked the same question but it was about cars. Your question would go something like this…
“Does anybody know the difference between these two? Honda and Honda Civic.”
You need to find out what kind of HID ballast, you found, is. HPS, MH, UHP or another. Generally you can’t mix and match between the different types unless the bulb or ballast is made to do so. I hope this helped.
