Hello. I've been browsing this forum for quite some time now. I'm new to the hifi diy zone but I think I'm hooked for life 🙂 It all started when I felt the urge to have some new speakers. Naturally I went to the Hifi store every non diy seems to like here in Sweden - hifiklubben (with speaker such as B&W. DALI and Cerwin).
Fortunately, at work, I met somebody who just happened to be interested in diy. He was just about to begin building new speakers so he offered me his old ones (also diy). I’m very happy with them. I bought a marantz 6000 le (at the hifiklubb), and I borrowed an amplifier.
I'm very happy with the speakers and fairly happy with the cd player. But i seriously needed new amplifiers. I did my research (both tube and SS).
I liked the Hiraga designs but finally decided on the aleph 30. But I might still try some Hiraga designs later on 🙂
Anyway, I started to look for information about the aleph 30, since I've heard of nothing but good things about this amplifier, when I found this excellent site.
Now still reading and absorbing I'm slowly moving to the idea of building the aleph x instead which I hope will commence real soon.
Future project will be to use bi-amping, maybe try some tube-amplifiers, modifying the cd player, building a dac and maybe moving on to horns (according to my friend I will end up with horns sooner or later, a kind of natural evolution for diy:s/hifi fanatics). I know realise that this is a life time hobby!
He is, by the way, planning to build some sub horn into the floor. One of his friends has such sub horn and according to him it is the cleanest and best sub bass available (which I don’t doubt). I haven’t heard it myself but I plan to go there soon. See this site if you don't to see what I mean (note: not my friends, friends’ site):

I hope that I will learn even more and I hope I can contribute some of my own.
Well that all from me for now, thanks for listening!

Hi Creatre🙂
Seems like the Scandanavians and the Aussies are going for a takeover!😀
Yes once you get the bug, it's very hard to go back to actually buying commercial offerings, you always think you can do better!

😀 YOU are right, because down here in the land of OZ for a long time if one wanted something decent one had to do it yourself or make do with what you had or could get, hence the prolification of the " bush mechanic" getting anything going with next to nothing but a length of barbed wire + HIS INGENUITY and some elementary tools
and a couple of beers to fortify oneself, not only that despite the lack of sophistication of the average joker does not mean that he or she does not aspire to something better ( for instance Oz was the third biggest market for Porsche after europe and the us by volume of cars sold)the trouble is we have been ripped off enough by so called high end importers asking outrageous prices for even the most mundane gear that gets any kind of recognition in brit or yank mags one example being Nad which is really quite good for what it is but way overpriced down herefor what it really is
REGARDS TO ALL
TJB

Funny, I just helped a friend at work to change a relay on his NAD amplifier. It does seem to be overpriced. And talking about jokers, a friend told me about an Italian hifi magazine. They had supposedly bought the best hifi gear there was. I forgotten all the details so it might not be a realistic account but this is some excerpt from the conversation...
For instance, they said, this speaker cable is 43 % better than the second best they had tested.
43%? Not 40 or 50% better?
No 43% exactly.
What measurements did you do to get that result?
No, we heard it by listening...
The system wasn't that impressive so when asked if they compared it to real, live music they said that they don’t go to concerts but they had compared it with lots of other equipment and this system was the best.
Later in the conversation, asked by the magazine.
What kind of speakers do you have?
Altec Lansing.
I never heard of that brand...
Anyways many thanks for the warm welcome!

Are you Magyar?we all have problems only some people have more than most....
long live the Magyar (Hungarians) in the world!
The most acurate ears.....
Heheheheheh...i'm not surprised!!!
Martin Colloms in the Hi Fi News magazine also rate the amps by points...😉
And even after a year of a test...he said that another amp is 1 point better than the last...he have tested one year ago!!...
And even more strange...imagine that are people that believe in this rankings!!!
Maybe he don't have ears...but a sonometer in ther place...😉
