Hi folks... Yet another Marantz PM-66 KI Problem!

Hello to you all... sorry i've not introduced myself yet, but it's late, and I don't want to type any more than I have to! 😀

I've searched obviously already here, but my problem seems to be different to most... and now it just got a lot worse unfortunately. 🙁

I've got limited experience in testing/building electronic circuits etc, but I'm very confident with domestic and Auto Electrics, so roughly know how to test everything... 🙂

My problem started with my amp's protection cutting in for no apparent reason around 8 years ago... never thought i'd be able to fix it, but thought recently i'd give it a go...

Anyway, thanks to the info I found on this great forum, i've changed the usual R801 and R802... no joy... but after discovering a good few dry joints, the speaker relay clicked on to my amazement!! 🙂

The problem is/was with the sound... like it was playing at 1/2 volume it should have been, or that it sounded empty and quiet... but strangely, the sound was equal mostly, and 9 o'clock on the dial just sounded like it was quieter than normal, and sounded flat, as i've mentioned.

So, I resoldered a lot of things like all the grounds and transistors and anything that seemed dry or a bit scorched... no difference.
Then I realised that the Headphones output was the same story... just sounded quiet and punchless, like the speaker outputs.

Have been testing the circuits as in the 6010se KI service manual... and all seemed fine, and spot-on mostly... until I got to testing the circuit that contains the Q705 component, now it's all gone wrong!! 🙁

I had tested almost everything on this IC (if that's what it is!?) and was testing Pin 16 for voltage (125v in 6010 manual) and my meter probe slipped and touched to Pin 15!!
Im guessing i'll probably have damaged something badly, but don't know what... however now the sound is quieter still, and if I try to raise the volume past around 8 o'clock, the protection cuts in. 🙁

I checked AN7062P again, and everything seems the same bizarrely enough.
Also, I noticed the right channel's bias has gone from spot-on, to reading ~24-26mV at idle... with the left channel still reading ~6mV after 30 seconds or so. 🙁

Please can anyone tell from my description what i've killed, or how I can go about testing to check?
I've gone from 'woohoo it's almost sorted now', to 'Whaaaaaa... boohoo, sob-sob' sort of mood. lol 🙁

Many thanks if you managed to read to the end of my 1st post!! lol

Cheers. 🙂

Seems your probably not far wrong there Bonsai, judging by the number of Marantz problems on this forum! 😀

Can anyone have a stab at guessing/explaining what I can do to repair the amp, or if there's a few checks I can do to narrow down the working/non-working parts? 🙂

I'd be grateful for any advice. 🙂

Nize.
