Hey guys just wantid to know if anyone could tell me if my yamaha xs350 power amp can do a 4 ohm load in bridge mode. Here is an image to help aid id
Google Image Result for http://medias.audiofanzine.com/images/normal/yamaha-xs-350-60944.jpg
The manual states clearly that it can run at 700watts at a 2 ohm load for 8 hours
Wether or not this is tru or not I'm unsure but have that they have bull$!+%ed about specs in the past just to keep competion with compeditors but weather or not that aplies to my amplifire I'm not sure but without going into those details
I just got hold of a jbl sr 4718x with a 2241g four ohm eighteen inch hence why im asking if that amp will be stable ...I've read about a few people who have cooked there amps after ten minets I don't want to do the same

Probably 700 watts at 2 ohms, sine wave, for a minute or two. It may be able to run at 2 ohms with typical music with occasional clipping for 8 hours. It may have been tested at 1/8 power pink noise (which will drive to clipping) and not shut down. This is the standard FTC power test. It used to be 1/3 power in decades past, but almost NOTHING will tolerate that anymore at minimum impedance, and very few at typical impedance. Definitely at 8 ohms, maybe at 4, but NOT at 2. Subwoofer duty is more stressful than full range music, closer to the 1/3 power if you compress or clip. It will probably do it if you're not heavy-handed with the volume control or go boosting the bass, but it's not typically recommended to run amps at minimum impedance for sub duty because of those little annoyances like thermal shutdown and mains breakers tripping. You'll see it done all the time for HT, but not on tour or any DJ that expects to be hired back.
20Hz-20kHz, THN+N=0.1% 8 ohms/ STEREO = 230W +230 W, 4 ohm/ STEREO = 350W + 350W, 8 ohms/BRIDGE = 700W 1kHz, THD+N=0.0% 8 ohms/ STEREO = 250W + 250W, 4 ohm/ STEREO = 400W + 400W, 8 ohms/BRIDGE = 800W
It will run into 2R for 20mS only!

Cheers guys that makes a lot of sense ....thers no way I want to cook my amp
I'm now going to have wire my two eight ohm fifteens down to four ohms and run them along side the eighteen so there stable I be running them of a biema q 400 here is the pic
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...a=X&ei=shwNUveBNbG0iQfOuIGIDg&ved=0CBoQ9QEwAA
Australian amp made by redback 400 into 8ohms 600 into four sterio 1.2kw into 8 bridged
Every thing is cut down with electronic crossovers .......but id still like to get a bit more power into the 18 inch 2241 woofer ....the fifteens are 2205a 300 watt driver but they take 400watts nicely and don't complain ...
What decent power amps are stable at four ohms briged ? I don't need low distortion as its hard to here distortion levels untill they hit 7-8% at under 85hz ...I've read some people run these off crown amps but I may have to look into getting another 18 and another beefy amp so I can run em side by side or wire em upto 8 ohms

Keep in mind that a bridged amplifier 'sees' only half of the actual load impedance. Therefore, a bridged amp running a 4-ohm load is the same as running the amplfier unbridged at 2-ohms. This is not a favorable condition for most amplifiers, especially at higher power levels.
I've never been a big fan of bridging amplifiers. In addition to the halving of the effective load impedance, it also ruins your damping factor by half!

thanks for that info ...ive never brigded an amp becaus ive never had to before and glad i asked you guys first ...before i went a head and lit the room up like it was xmass in august ..
so im going to steer clear of that side of things i dont want to damage equipment that cost me thousands
but it still leavs me asking the question what do you need to get the power into these big jbl 18's most power amps i see are 400wats into 8 two channel
and without bridgeing on of these to 1200watts into 8 i cant see much other ways around it unless there are some on ebay that 1.2kw into 8 sterio
