So guy brought this in. One of the output tubes is shorted so need a new pair. But it has loud cracks and pops. The tubes fit very loosely in sockets and when wiggled creates some crackling also. When you hit on the top it will set off the crackling also. So is this just due to sockets and if so than replace? Seems like this may be a common problem.

Delta Blues? A Classic 30 under the skin. You could have loose sockets, I'd sure try just tightening up the pins before replacing any. But those Belton sockets ought not be hard to replace. I would also freshen up their solder. But what really is likely is the row of little jumper wires between boards. They can break, their solder can crack.

Do they run these EL84's hard in this design? Seems like this amp goes through a set about every 1.5 years or so.
