O.k. here it is done. Has not been tested yet.
If you follow these instructions to any degree, you do so at your own risk.
Cooldrums, thanks for the notice. what are you going to do with the little pc board in the lower right corner? do you or ace have focal lengths for your lenses? I want to try to mount an lcd where the center CRT was removed from if at all possible.

Focal length is 240mm or about 9.44 inches.

The PC board will have to swing out at a 90 degree angle and be fixed to a side board or something to allow the light to not make a shadow of it on the screen.
Anyone who has accomplished this feel free to comment cause i'm pretty much flyin' by the seat of my pants at this point

There is a lot of free knowledge that is shared here, it's a great community effort. Thanks. I just don't want to answer questions that i may not be qualified to answer at this time if you know what i mean. There's nothing worse than someone giving out false information they beleive is right that can lead someone to a costly mistake.
Ace, I do have a question for you. What is a good method to hold the LCD in it's metal frame without blocking part of that screen with clips or something. With just the LCD screen and the small circuit board it's free to fall out with nothing to stop it.

Also,
Do i have to ground the LCD? i did notice it seemed to have a aluminum rounding sheet on the back of the screen that the small board was screwed through.

Nope not at all its got its ground running in the flexi cable as most do, but not all, u wont have any trouble with this lcd im telling ya lol

Ok guys a big warning, do not ever put that small pcb in where the light will be, not only shadow but a uv/heat isue on that tinny pcb, that tinny pcb is the most sensitive part to that lcd monitor, if that stuffs up bye bye projector and lcd, never place that where there is heat or bright light, ofcourse there is a fix to all of this lol u can mount it on the outside of a wall that the controller pcb will mount to that way it stays cool and safe, as for the lcd frame the white backing u need to cut out so its just got its outer frame left and so it wont block any light that will be going to go through the lcd, that way then the lcd is held into place in its original way and cant fall out.
Trev
I was afraid you were going to say to cut it out (the white plastic)
My plan was to mount the PC board outside so that's good.
It's all coming together slowly.
Thanks again Ace, i appreciate it.

Is this where you found it?

"Sale Price" of $169.99
Shipping rang up for me at $16.54
Also, any idea if any of their other models use the same screen? They don't spec the resolution, but some say "high resolution" where other models don't... Just found it odd that that sweet Hitachi panel only appears in one overhead unit.

That's the place. PD-186
It said in the small manual they give 800X480. I just got lucky that it was easy to take apart. My first LCD was a 5.6 that required me to lengthen the ribbon cable wire by wire. NOT worth the effort!
I don't know the other models that use the same screen unfortunately. I'm sure other utilize it.

Looks like Phoenix Digital redesigned the PD-186... model number remains the same, but the "2004" edition looks completely different. Wonder if that affects how easy it is to disassemble?

Sorry i don't have any updated pics or screen shots. It's a pretty basic design as you saw from the early photo's.
Man, I can't be the first to test this one, i've already fried 2 of these stupid things. I had to lengthen the ribbon cable on one (5.6inch) and ended up losing the reds in my screen, and the other (PD-186) doesn't display much of anything any more.
Whose gonna be brave?!
