Helping Seniors Stay in their Homes

Old 4 year technical education is "expired" and a few days course can make unexperienced people "certified".

Nobody ever forwarded that memo to me. However in light of my experience it makes sense.

When I got laid off I was confident I would get another job. When I highlighted my educational background, very traditional university education, the recruiters would roll their eyes like I'm some kind of dumbass and say in a very condescending way (they ALL said this) "your education is expired." It was deeply embarrassing and made me feel like a stupid old man.

The fact of the matter is that after almost four years of unemployment, I got a "job" that paid about 10% of my previous salary with zero benefits.

I remember when I was still rich and stupid, there was a barista at Starbucks that looked quite out of place. He was my age, looked middle class educated like me, definitely didn't aspire to a career at Starbucks. I felt sorry for him but I was confident it would never happen to me. Well guess what.

But now I'm looking in the rear view mirror, giving all those pricks the rasberries. You didn't kill me (you almost did) I'm still kicking.
