Help wth hooking Sony ES Toslink to Sony ES preamp coaxial

Wondering if you have an idea of what connection/interconnect cable would need to hook my soon showing up CD player Sony CDP-X55ES to the Preamp TA-E77ESD?
In the manual shown its possible to connect two ways.
#1 Using the standard connection method of RCA's line out to the CD input connection of the preamp that understand.
Or stated in the manual they say for "best sound" use Digital connection which uses the dat of the preamp! But the connections between the digital source inputs outputs on the ES units doesn't seem to be matching up?

There's a Toslink output on the Sony Cd player CDP-X55ES
The other outputs are RCA line outs shown as fixed and variable understand this traditional connection/use connected into the preamp via RCA cables.
What kind of cable does/can one use to achieve the digital hook-up?
Doesn't going from the two L/R fixed line outs into the digital inputs of the preamp shown as 1/2 is that left/right? or does one need a 2 into 1?
Isn't that also going to take the analog output converted by/from the cd's DAC player then convert it again into digital using the built-in DAC of the preamp?
Using the digital Toslink out of the Cd player into the digital coaxial input of the preamp but the connections are of a different type on both ends?
See there are stand alone Toslink to coaxial converter boxes is that my only digital hookup option or just go with the standard RCA connections and forget about it...?
Thanks and regards
Keith

Found this idea where someone Patched a coaxial output in parallel to the optical output ?
Like the idea of keeping things internal or perhaps buying one of these boxes and removing the plastic case and placing the board inside the cd player with the coaxial output extended to a chassis coaxial connector!

modding stuff is full of trade-offs even if you are an EE,
I think about grounding and power supply noise causing IMD among many other unknowns.
that is why optical between boxes is so damn attractive in the 1st place don't wreck it!
