I picked up this amp a while back.. only paid $10 for it, and it works great 😁😁! But I mostly collect Rockford, does anyone happen to know exactly what amp this is? I have looked online and can't find anything that matches HC327189. That's the only numbers on the board. Any help would be appreciated

It's "cough cough" JUNK, Junk I tell you. Just tell me where to send the 50 bucks plus shipping to take that old boat anchor off your hands 🙂 That looks to be one of the early US Amps, there is a facebook group you can join that could help you more, it is one of the "gut shot" groups. The guy you are looking for is Dirk Ecker, the last engineer from the old days at US Amps. He will be able to tell you more. Sorry I cant look it up better I suck at Facebook, and my wife (the FB pro) is asleep.

Found it, the Facebook group is "Gut-shotz!" when you post the pics, ask kindly if someone would tag Dirk in it, so he might reply. He might need more pics to identify it.

Also, see, Perry thinks its a boat anchor too, send it my way 🙂

The worst amps ever designed by a human.

LOL! No grey area there, huh? Their reputation was very good around here, but I have no personal experience with them. I'll happily rethink that reputation in deference.

There are two gaping holes in my collection where an early Olympus and Ceres belong. One of these days I'll finally get my hands on them!

If you have to spend hours just for disassembly, cleaning and reapplying heatsink compound then reassembling an amp, on top of the time it takes to repair it and then the owner destroys it again because the protection circuit didn't work well enough to protect the amp when reinstalled (sometimes from the owner doing something stupid), you would quickly learn to hate the amps.

I gave them another chance, hoping that they improved and again, a stupid problem with the slots (slots, not properly placed holes) in the transistor clamps were not large enough for the screws and so when you tried to turn the screw, the clamp would move left to right.

I NEVER found anything to like about the amps.

So far I have never had the "pleasure" of working on a US Amps, Thanks for the warning! I just do this as a hobby in my spare time so I see mostly Rockfords and the Korean amps. Longing to get my hands on any of the amps from back when I was young, the "old school" stuff from late 80's early 90's. RF, Linear power (fixed one of them) Hifonics, Zapco (got a AG200 I am restoring), Soundstream, and many more. I joined a bunch of Facebook groups that are all about these older amps. Seems there are a bunch of people who are into the good old days of amplifiers. 🙂
