An opamp is an opamp, the faster ones need some additional rail decoupling but 5532 is hardly one of those.
Probably you just had defective components.

He said he used counterfeit 5532, so that was the cause i think. You can't expect normal behaviour from a fake component. I remember an incident when i replaced a fake 4558 with a genuine JRC4558, i instantly experienced the huge difference between the two.

You should build yourself a rig to test opamps - for noise and distortion.

Nah, not interested because it's true that there's a big difference between original & counterfeit components. After that incident now i always buy original components from authorised stores or reliable sources. I'm not making anything, it's true.

I thought different opamps have different maximum voltage and gain so misjudged if they are compatabile or not.

I alse want to know if live soldering damaged the fake ne5532. OR The fake ne5532 was itself to blame. The legs on fake are very very thin. Will update when I get time.
