Help with selecting a Potentiometer

Hi,

I would like help in selecting a potentiometer from Digikey.
I am very new to this type of thing, though I have built a chipamp before. I am modifying my 5 ch chipamp to add two more channels, with those two extra channels having a volume control. The problem I am having is figuring out all the different types of potentiometers that Digikey has.
I would like a 10k linear, two channel ("stereo") pot. All I could find were single channel types or if I did find one it was obscure as to whether it was a two channel type.
The reason for a linear type is because it will be for the electronic crossover I am adding, which is the reason for the "extra" two channels. Marchand(x-over kit) recommends the linear type.
Thanks for the help!

What is the difference in a log vice a linear pot?
I'm using Peter Daniel's lm4780 and Marchand's electronic x-over. Peter says to use a 10k log before amp, while Marchand says to use a 10k linear after x-over; what would be the difference as they are both installed between each component? Could this mean I could use either?

(I haven't asked either of them the question,it is just what I read via threads/assy documents)

A Linear Pot has a Liner Taper Meaning that at the 12 o"clock Position it is at exactly at 50% of the Resistance of the Total Pot,

a Log Pot has a Logorythmic Taper which basicly means that last 25% of the Pots Rotation has about 50% of the Total resistance of the Pot.....They say that Human hearing is Logorythmic.....

I think what you are looking for would be a 10K Dual Ganged Pot (Log or Linear) which is basicly 2 Pots on the Same Shaft, and you would connect each Channel to each Gang of the Pot so when you turn the Pot it Changes the Volume of Both speakers equally......

Good luck

Thanks for the help! I'm going with a log pot-dual ganged.Pec brand.I am going with a 10k one.
My question now is how does a person know which size to get, besides somebody telling me the correct size?
Is there a website that I can learn this?I've been searching the web all night and came up mostly empty handed.

Well the Size of the Pot you get would probably be a personal choice based on how much space you have for the Pot and were the pot is to be Positioned......

I personally just use whatever I have available at the time.....

Cheers

Size as in 10k,25k, 100k. I have been reading somemore about selecting the "size". Zin/10 and Zout/40 or something like that, so now I am looking at a 25k log taper from PEC.
Marchand's x-over is 100ohm and Peter's lm4780 is ?? so I am going to guess that a 25k one will do.

I try to keep the Value as small as possible (10k) because the Value of the Pot adds to the Input impedance that the Chips see and generally the lower the Input impedance the Lower the noise.....

Most gainclones I have seen used between 10k and 50k so 25k is a good choice......

Cheers
