Hello !!

Sorry if you think this question is stupid, but i'm a complete newbie to this.

I want to build a PSU for my amp that I build.
I got this transformers already:
2 x transformer (primary=220V, secondary=2x18V)

I want to feed my amp with +- 45-50V.
How do i do ??, Please help !!

???

Hi.

Iceman...I'm little bit confused here.If I understood you well, you have a transformer with two separate secondary coils. If it is,wire them like shown bellow. But here is a suggestion.Order a transformer with 72V on secondary.Of course with a center tap. This will give you 2x50VDC.Make your life easy!
By the way(just in case)tell me the core ratings of your transformers. If you are not sure, write down the transformer dimensions.
Regards.

Hi.

That's why I suggested Iceman to order a new transformer.
There is no way to get +/- 50VDC from a transformer he has.
I'm also sceptic about his transformer ratings!
About fig.(b) he will get 50VDC but without the common ground.
Cheers.

Hi.

Natten you have mixed up things. If you want to make a good power supply look the photo bellow.Forget about example b.
In this case here are some simple calculations:

50 / 1,41 = 35,5

So you will need a transformer with 2x36V on secondary.
The AC outlet ground connect to the chassis and nothing else!
You must ground the chassis for safety reasons!
Regards.

Ooops!
I have to put my glasses.LOL.Thanx Moamps!

Natten... so were is the problem? The schematic looks OK.How much supply voltage do you need?

I need a voltage above 0 🙂

I have bridged two lm3886 so its not too important which voltage it is but i want it to be >20v. the amp works but the PS doesnt work at all. im going to test it some more later.
