Previous poster says that sending Hp ipod's output is a good idea ( it's...boosted !)
Boostaroo is a black box and you don't know what's inside, probably a SMD-surface mounted- IC 8 pin DIL integrated circuit or two

I own a couple Boosteroos.🙂
It's a $20 (Radio Shack) 10x headphone amp using three TDA2822 SMT chips for its three output jacks, running off a pair of AA batteries.
The line-out from the iPod can be tapped into, but the bidirectional USB stream includes both the digital audio to the head unit and the control data sent between the iPod and the car electronics. So tapping the line-out is sort of like letting the toothpaste out of the tube... how to get it back in? That requires some pretty serious hardware and software skills. I don't know if there's any commercial modules to make the job easier.

Here's my idea... My "PocketDock"(seen in the hand diagram) or here: SendStation - Products - PocketDock Line Mini Out USB, can tap into the ipod's 30 pin dock connector, channel the ipod's audio line-out/Data sync signal, and feed it through a "mini usb" port and connect to a USB 2.0 device, in this case, my car's ecu/hu. Next to the PkdDk's mini usb port is a 3.5mm (1/8) TRS port to connect to an "Aux-in" stereo jack.
My theory is, that if I were to "feed in" to this device (Aux-in/mini usb-in) with it connected to another 30 pin female to male USB 2.0 "downstream", then I may be able to use the "Aux-out" from the IPOD (via the pocketdock) and into the car's USB "IPOD mode" connector in the glovebox, w/o losing the touchscreen functionality... only a theoretical plan at this point.
BTW: You said that you own a couple of boosteroo's, guess they're pretty decent?? I just ordered the "Boosteroo" W/ the 12V cigarette lighter adapter. If this works, it'll be well worth all the trouble, maybe even help someone else attempting to do the same thing!
Greg (rigtec) cheers
