hey guys, a friend of mine recently approached in hopes of bouncing some ideas of me for his new soundsystem build. He plans to build 6 dual 15 Bass reflex enclosures loaded with the 15tbw100, and wants to pair it with 4 dual 12 trap boxes (not my style, but thats what he wnts)

he has 4 selenium d3300TI

Selenium D4400Ti 2" Titanium Horn Driver 4-Bolt | 264-230

and 4 B&C ME60 horns

B&C ME60 2" Constant Directivity Horn 60x40 4-Bolt | 294-624

and he would LIKE to select a pair of 12s that are 16ohm (so each box is 8 ohm). This Narrows the affordable choices down quite a bit.

what would you guys reccomend out of this short list, in order price descending?

Eminence Delta12b

expected crossover is to be around 90, so tuning doesnt need to be much below that at all. I almost toyed with the idea of sealed for the faitals, as they have kind of a wonky tuning when tuned high it seems...

I have literally no experience in designing tops. help me out please lol.

as far as parts express stock going 4 ohm does not open up any more options in an affordable range. a couple drivers in the 250 to 300 range but that doesnt help much.

he currently lugs dual 15 trap boxes, weight will not be an issue.

Yeah, double-15" boxes are fine, until you have to put them on top of something tall.

Anyway, I suspect that taking a pair of 12"s up to 1.2kHz will result in some combing in the midrange, so it might be worth going 2.5-way, which would take care of baffle-step for free.

No chance of doing something like a Synergy Horn?

His build chops, and clearly my design chops are not up to the task. Like i said, he will be upgrading from a run of the mill dual 15, that is both heavy and crossed at 1.5 k (the "beam machine").

That selinium on that horn might be good down to 1khz, but i wouldnt take it lower thans that.

All things considered, seems like some inexpensive higher Qt prosound [Goldwood or similar] drivers in sealed alignments would be the way to go and use [4] cab if more power handling is required. Mounting the horn in the middle of them would solve any polar response issues.

The faital pr310/300 both look pretty good(and very small) in sealed cabs, with usable extension to the mid 90s. I considered this option, but due to the distance between us i dont want him to be underwhelmed by the output capabilities.

Any recomendations on an xover point to the horn with seaked 12s?
(Btw, im keen on faital right now because i get a sugnificNt discount on them)

Any chance they'll do okay in ported?

By the sounds of it, these drivers will be seeing considerable power, so I'd want to ensure some heat exchange with the rest of the world. Imagine a half-kilowatt heater left inside a closed wooden box. Its gonna get warm in there. Ports would allow some convection cooling.

Looking at the frequency response charts, it looks like you could go as high as 2kHz, maybe 2.5kHz, before the off-axis and on-axis charts seriously diverge. The impedance wiggliness above 2kHz suggests some cone break-up, so probably avoid going higher than that. That gives you roughly an octave to play around with.
Not much else to go on, there.
