I don´t know if it´s the same/similar in other countries but in germany people refer to beer as "liquid bread".
We basically came up with a 170 Liter box tuned to 30 Hz The green line is 150 liter tuned to 34 Hz and the yellow line is 170/30 Hz. There is still a small bump in the bass, but I am not sure I will actually notice it.
Hi Dave,
I'd say either of those alignments could work well. As GM pointed out, which is best will be determined by the transfer function of your room. I'd start with an over-long port and then listen and measure in-room response, cut the port, and repeat until you find the best tuning.
Don't be too worried about the midbass hump in your simulations—it might actually be helpful. In the EV pdf I sent you, notice they speak of a slightly sagging response between 70 and 200 Hz in large boxes. smaller-volume alignments like yours correct this. If you look at the FR plot of the sealed 2.5 cu. ft. box (very small!), no hump is visible.
I haven't tested any of this myself, but this is what the literature suggests.
Should I build the boxes out of birch plywood or MDF? THis is the next decision. MDF is cheaper and seems to be easier to work with (I plan to veneer the speakers also) but, what are the pros and cons and which would you suggest?

IME, in smaller enclosures, the differences between the two are nuances--subjective at best. As boxes get bigger, I like ply's toughness and screw-holding ability, and I appreciate the fact that its sawdust will kill me less quickly. 😉 Then again, MDF is easier to miter and prepare for finish...
So, the answer is - it all depends!! LOL I knew that answer was coming sometime in this thread. 😀
😉 If you get my drift.
Any other comments?
Bill, has anyone really worked with the Galante crossover more? I am trying to get opinions on it.

I just got some of these speaker and I know nothing about them. I know there is a ton of information in this thread, but Im a total speaker novice. i just need to know if they will be good for subwoofers. I will be building boxes and I will probably need alot of help with that too. I would like all of the information you are willing to give me. Just try and dumb it down alot. thanks.

No, you can't use this speaker as a subwoofer.
It is a very good driver for full range compact loudspeaker ( or for a top used in mid range spectrum ).
