I have 2 Soundstream MC245 that I planning on using in my system. I’ve been reading about changing out the op-amps in amps, pre-amps, CD players and so on. From what I have read this is one of the easiest ways to tailor the sound of the component to your liking.
I will start by statement the type of sound that I like. I like it smooth, but not dark, dynamic and detailed, with a very good sense of spaces and openness. The drivers I using are all one the warm, smooth and robust side, but are in no way dark sounding and are none for their detail.
The op-amp in install the amps are a single TL072 (dual op-amp) as far as I can see. Being it is a full range 5 channel not sure how a single one works, can someone please explain it to me, and I love learning new and important things like this.
I’m looking for a direct replacement or an easy replace; I would like to use a dual one to replace them. I have been researching and the ones I’m more interested in are the:
AD8066: Said to be one of the best for bass and is very detailed and open. Not sure if it is a direct replacement, looks like I will need a Brown Dog adaptor.
OP275: Said to be better then the TL072, but to have a sort of tube sound.
LM4562: Said to be very detailed and open also. No sure if it is a direct replace
OPA2107: Said to be another very detailed and open also. Not sure if it’s a direct replacement of not.
I’ve seen the OP275 and OPA2107 on ebay, any help to source them or the others would be great also.

I guess you can remove the OP275 as it may be to smooth for the speakers I have. I may cause a darking of the sound.
You have two identical threads on this. Ask the mods to merge them because it will become confusing very fast.

It has bipolar input. ( not JFET op-amp like TL072 or OPA2134 )
It has very good data. Even for audio.
Still, OP275 has never become any real hit.
I have not seen too many audio designs using it. OP27 and OP37, yes.
But not OP275.
And also recall reading somewhere it can not compare with such as OPA2134 when comes to sound.
If now Op-Amps effect sound so anybody can hear ...
Which I very much doubt.
