I'm looking for some help-insight on a bookshelf build... one of these two:
Falcon with FF105wk
Storm Shadow with Pluvia 7 PHD
I've had the FF85wk and really enjoyed them... I like how more front stage the presentation is and how they performed at low volumes... is the 105 similar with better bass??
And I have no idea how the 7PHD is as the only Mark Audio driver I had was the EL70. While it was a little further back in the staging and had way better bass... it was not as good a low volumes so comments would be appreciated!!
I'm not concerned about top end as I don't hear past 10k anymore. I'm more concerned with proper tone and easier listening... nothing hard or brass or sibilant.
I'm guessing the bass output of the MA with be greater?? Better midbass??
What's the 7PHD like in the midrange?? As natural as the Fostex??
Any help would be appreciated... thanks!!

I haven't used the Pluvia 7, but I have used several other Mark Audio drivers. I have only used two Fostex drivers. The SPL is very close, so I don't see that as an issue. In my experience, the midrange of all MA drivers has been good to great.
Do you have a link to the Storm Shadows?
With all that being said, I'd go with the Mark Audio driver.
Just my two cents,
Mike

I would also prefer the Mark Audio. I used it's precestor Alpair 7.3 (but sold it) and still use the bigger ones (Alpair 10.3 and CHN110) driver and they are great drivers. I don't know the cabinets you mention but many good ones were made, in all kind of styles (reflex, TL type, horns).
The FF105WK doesn't look to bad to me, but i'm not the biggest fan of Fostex in general. A bit to bright in the wrong sense for me. But that is a personal preference as Fostex is not a bad brand, just not my cup of tea.

A tiny bit lower, midTop almost reaches what the FF85 does.
Pluvia 7PHD
Really a step up everywhere. Check out the microTower revisted thread. A couple guys swapped their EL70s for P7HD. See what they had to say.
Evan (?) won a chance to get a VFET and is quite enamoured, my take away is that the speakers are good enuff to reveal th ebeauty of an amplifier like the VFET :^)
