Yes, AFAIK the G is ST shape, the GA is tubular, but otherwise the same.I meant a replacement for the GA version, I read something in a quick skim of that site that they are slightly different.
Hmmmm... well the original plan for this project was to build around a power transformer and tubes I had in my parts bins to save my friend some $. Buying tubes isnt out of the question, but it's kindof out of the scope of my original plan.
You don't have to use the PSU shown in the "El Cheapo" graphic. As long as the B+ rail voltage is correct, use whatever you have on the "pile". The needs of the 12AT7/ECC81 splitter rule the roost. 360 V. gets things done.
The 6H2Π (6n2p) is a 12AX7 in disguise. Those wimpy triodes get into trouble driving the CMiller of triode and UL mode "finals". Stick to the 12AT7, which exhibits both high μ and low RP.
IMO, it pays to deal with reliable tube dealers, for most purchases. My go to guy is Jim McShane and he has 6CA4s. 😉
