Hi,

Except the perfect driver for his box with a garbage
x/o and whatever tweeter will be a waste of money.

rgds, sreten.

A "beginner" will be very hard pushed to do anything
better than what I have suggested, for reasons that
I'm not remotely prepared to go into in any detail.
Good advice can be be taken or left.

i agree, it will take time to get it right and getting the kit is guaranteed success. it depends on the OP if he's willing to venture into speakers DIY or if this is just 1 time off.

if 1 time, then getting a kit as you recommended earlier definitely the best way to do it.

cheers

Hi,

Things is, even if you do venture into speaker DIY
seriously in the long run, its still much better to
start off with a half decent design that you may
not understand, than your own half baked attempt.

e.g. anyone who builds a Zaph design for their first
speaker, and then pores over the comprehensive
details provided, would be in a far better position
to design their own speakers than the usual very
clueless very basic mistakes of "beginners".

Absolutely IMO the best site about speaker design.
Not that I agree with all of it, but loads of it is right.

i think the most valuable lessons is learning from your mistakes, i remember when just started 11 years ago, i think the first decent speakers i made was after 8years and the true reference speakers i made is after i have a complete measurements gear 🙂

Speaker building is like learning to walk as you mentioned earlier, and we all did that with baby steps. If this is your first build I concur with the others that a kit is guaranteed sucess while learning crossover design is a learning curve.

Sreten has suggested some great kits.
Here is another if you are interested in the RS150.
Introducing The Arias - my Black Box design. RS150-4 + XT25SC90-04

Tuning any of these to your box is something this forum can help you with and if you take the time to learn how these proven crossovers do their job, then you are on your way to designing your own on the next build and believe me there will always be another build.

good luck
David

That was exactly my point! I was not planing to make a nice par from the first time. I was not planing to do if even for listening... I have troels pms, which btw, I made myself, some nice OB I made according to MJK files. I was going to start making something myself, and not just onetime attempt for semi baked speakers... I was looking for a guidance to narrow down my searches and a little plan so I could dig deeper. Ok, I got the idea, will be reading myself...

in that case, you are on the right track 🙂. i did some sim on your cabinets, not sure how thick the walls are, but with 18mm it came out 9L, and with 12mm came out 12L.

SB17 needs at least 15L, with such small box the port is just not possible as your box are shallow (unless u put an L port)

SB15 will fit, but your cutout already for 6.5".

Exodus Anarchy is another option, erich at diysoundgroup sells this now, the 8ohm was around 84db, so the 4ohm i expect around 87db, which with baffle step you prob end up at 84-85.

EX Anarchy is very very good on the bass, but it will need to cross low, so tweeters like RS28 prob works better.

Hi,

Whatever. I don't think so. Whilst being very occasionally wrong
most of the time I'm right from what I have learned and that is
not based on making mistakes, its based on trying to understand.

Even tho this is not how I started, that was a long time ago (>37 years). Now we have far more knowledge on the subject, computers and the internet. So there really is no reason to blindly go where thousands have gone before. Reading everything you can find and trying out various what ifs with a given known standard is then far more rewarding and a whole lot cheaper.

Let me add, the current speaker I'm building has been in progress for over a year now. While not in a rush, need to finish someday. I do take the time to consider every choice made six days to Sunday and reread many published works, commentary from experts here etc when feeling a little foggy about anything. Am very close is all I can say, need more parts... the never ending story.

PKI,

now you know who's to be asked for advice and who's not.
Seems to me there is more than a few good DIYers, but no,
they are not gonna tell you how it's actually done. That's
how it is.

Wish you success and remember your best friend, that would
be measurement gear. It will tell and teach you like no DIYer
in the whole world and do it without hesitation.

Ok, guys. I've been thinking and reading and thats what I decided: I will start my own building from the scratch and it will be a long process with my own cabs etc, but it will take time and tons of reading. For now, I was thinking of either I should buy an Overnight Sensation (love this FZ album 🙂 or ZA5 drivers and put them into the box I have? Any suggestions?

The reason is that it is impossible to convey all there is to be said on the subject and for the recipient to absorb all of this information in short order. This hobby (or profession) covers multiple disciplines, more skills than you can shake a stick at and most importantly experience to grasp what is. It's more like a decades long apprenticeship than a semester long shop class where your mum gets the butcher block in the end. 😀

Hi,

Your own cabinets ? different ballpark. I still think the GRR kit is the
best cheap option to go in your cabinets, sealed and and well stuffed.

I like the Amiga as budget hifi two channel (no sub) speaker a lot.
