Help: Powertech 2 and ESS speakers setup

First off, I'm a total newb. Please go easy if I am posting in the wrong forum or if the solution to my problem is immediately obvious.

I recently purchased a Crown Powertech-2 power amp on Ebay to power my ESS LD-10LR speakers (specs below).

From the start, I believe I've experienced phasing out issues with my power amp. Essentially, certain frequencies aren't being transmitted to the speakers. If you have ever heard one of those low-budget karaoke machines where the vocals are muffled and some of the instrument tracks are missing, that's sort of what music from a CD or iTunes sounds like when I play it. Interestingly, when I play an electronic instrument like a drum machine through it, it sounds fine.

I've switched out wiring and plugs a half dozen times thinking there might be some polarity issues. Alas, that doesn't seem to be the issue. I also checked the manual to see if stereo settings need to be adjusted a certain way and I have followed all their recommendations for setup.

Thus, I have since contacted the seller, and he assures me things were fine when he sent it out. His past ratings seem to lead me to believe he is telling the truth. I believe the problem might have more to do with what I don't understand regarding audio technology.

Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
