I'm building a Verdier-like. Here are the plans of the different pieces but I don't know how to mount the axis... Do you understand what this guy did ?

The description of what he did starts off pretty informative, then just collapses into some generalities. However, the end result is beautiful.

the bearing is not magnetic. I forgot to draw the ball in my plan. But there is a magnetic suspension - like on all Verdiers. The platter is in Dural (AU 4 G).
But do somebody can help to resolve how to mount the axis ?!?

It is some time since I took an interest in the Verdier but as I recall early examples relied on the magnets to take all the vertical load, while later a ceramic ball was added to the top of the bearing shaft and the vertical load adjusted so that the ball bearing carried something in the order of 5lbs.
In the pics it looks like the bearing shaft is sitting in a brass collar/sleeve (see underneath pic) that is threaded to allow for height adjustment of the platter (ie the magnetic gap) with a locknut on the shaft to set the adjustment.
