Dear members,
Because the original plate amp from Final S220 subwoofer died, I ordered a Hypex FA251 plate amp. Not knowing there are no filters installed...... I read the manual and searched for tutorials but I haven't got a clue what to do😕
First of all, do i need measurements to design the filter or can i use some sort of default settings for subwoofers?
I attached the specifications from the manual.
Thanks in advance.
Barry

Hypex FA251 isn't a plug and play amp. It is a full DSP plate amp. You need to use Hypex Filter design: Hypex Electronics B.V. to configure it.
You can get the best results of course if you measure it and adjust the filters afterwards. The UMIK-1 is a great cheap microphone that is good enough for the job.
You can of course input the filters without measuring, and in this case I would advise not going overboard one the filters. Just use moderate touches, say a 2nd order subsonic highpass, a crossover lowpass and level adjustment.
Addition: Even if you measure it is usually a good idea to go gentle with the filters. If you need lots of steep filters to fix your speaker then more often than not that speaker has fundamental problems and no amount of filters will fix it. You can hide the problems sure, but then they usually show up in other areas so they are still there.

A speaker builder used the same plate amp for his subwoofer. In his instructions he mentions "Make a 4th order slope at e.g. 50, 70 and 90 Hz for the three pre-sets". Given the fact I don't have a mic or experience to take measurements, I would like to follow his directions but I haven't got a clue how to use the software. I couldn't find any videos on Youtube on how to use the software and I can't find a clear instruction in the manual.
I would like to learn how to take measurements and use them to tweak the subwoofer but for starters I just want it to work ;-)
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to use the software?

I am working on my first system using the fusion plate amps.
The hypex software uses biquads to make the filters. See page 28-29 for what settings to see to make a LR4.

Haven't actually used it yet. But using this page as a guide...and playing around a bit....I think I'll be able to make it work if and when I get a Hypex dsp plate amp: FUSION-BAD_FA251
Hopefully this might help you as well.
